OUR MISSION - To provide Auburn City School students the opportunity to excel beyond the limitations of an Alabama classroom. The Science Olympiad program is our main focus. Students may choose to try out just one event, or if you want to be nationally competitive, it can be a seven-days-a-week, after-school, year-round commitment. Our organization provides real-world competition and leadership opportunities. This model coordinates J. F. Drake Middle School, Auburn Junior High School and Auburn High School in a learning community. Many opportunities exist including Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, multiple science fairs, science-paper reading competitions and the Gorgas scholarship competition. Pick one event of interest or make a full commitment, its all for you and up to you. Students compete against themselves, teammates and other teams. Join our organization and be ready for real science and a real challenge. Welcome to the competition. Learn from your mistakes. Prepare to win!
What is a LEARNING COMMUNITY - a learning community is a group of people moving forward toward goals based, in this case, in education. There are different entities in a learning community and each participant has responsibilities and benefits. Entities might be local volunteers; university students; parents; teachers; high, middle or elementary students; high or middle school mentors; emails from Alabama professors or professionals in a science or engineering field. Be sure to thank them often. In the Auburn Middle School Science Organization, we strive to be state champions. Multiple levels in this community include elementary, middle, junior and high school. Venues include Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, Science Fair and anything else we can wrap our paws around. Students at each level need to first and foremost understand that you are not a receiver of knowledge. No one in this community needs to put it on your plate, but instead, it is your responsibility to take advantage of the resources available. It is your responsibility only to achieve in this community. This community promises you a balanced portion of opportunity and you may take it if you desire. On your mark...get set...go!
